Late at night, DeepSeek Harness launched a major update, and the RC.8 version has been released.

Two days after the release of RC.7, DeepSeek added a number of key capabilities to the open-source Agent framework. The update covers multiple areas such as multi-modal inputs, sub-projects, tool calls, Windows terminals, and underlying storage.

There are two of them that are most worthy of attention.

First, the multi-modal capabilities of DeepSeek Harness are further enhanced.

According to the updated documentation: The DeepSeek model adapter can now directly open native image requests, and core commands such as /goal、/plan also support image mixed input. At the same time, the @ menu adds document and historical session references, allowing users to directly hand over local files, along with the context of previous conversations, to the Agent to process.

Another notable change was that Claude Code and Codex were further incorporated into the DeepSeek Harness' Agent sorting system. This may also be the most noteworthy change in RC.8.

In RC.8, both are installed as an on-demand Profile Bundle and are called by Harness as subcontractors. In this case, Codex also adds a non-interaction authorization mode and supports running multiple naming instances simultaneously.

This suggests that DeepSeek Harness is becoming more and more like an agent's unified scheduling layer: the upper layer is responsible for dismantling tasks and organizing workflows, and the lower layer can pull in different coding agents depending on the task.

In fact, this route is already in its infancy in RC.7.

Released on 17 August, RC.7, for the first time, gives access to the Job Panel for Codex and Claude Code's sub-proxy tasks. Users can directly manage the execution process for both types of agents in Harness's task pane. To RC.8, this capability goes a step further: Claude Code and the corresponding Codex provider can be made into a separate Profile Bundle and reinstalled as needed.

There is also a significant increase in the use of tools.

Web_search now supports concurrent queries; after the sub-agent completes the task, reportDelivery can timely feedback on the results and actively awaken the parent task. For long-chain tasks that need to simultaneously search for multiple sources of information and then summarize to the master agent, such changes will directly affect the execution efficiency of the entire workflow.

Windows users have also introduced a practical update. PTY terminals now support perpetuated PowerShell sessions and open by default in Minimal default. Installation and startup processes are further simplified, including reducing dependence on download volume, and automatically opening the browser when running local dsh web.

In addition, RC.8 focuses on fixing a number of problems in actual use, including:

  • Repair problems with oversized or overloaded historical images resulting in failure of model requests

  • Modified Cancellation of Flow generated after the displayed response prefixes did not lead to subsequent queries and fork sessions

  • Fixed partial custom OpenAI compatibility gateways that could not be called due to request format differences, as well as issues with rational content retransmission that may be missing

In terms of SDK, the Python SDK relies on configuration to cover four built-in Agent presets, and includes rg/glob search and MCP stdio tool dependencies.

These are some of the updates that can be seen as the most worthy of attention in RC.8, which may not be a new feature. DeepSeek Harness is slowly turning top coding agents like Claude Code, Codex, into "teammates" that you can call at any time in your workflow.
