It's the first time in the history of the world.

SpaceXAI is going to change its name!

On October 4, Musk posted on X that "No more AI, SI (superintelligence) is better".

Asked if SpaceXSI could be renamed, Musk replied, "Yes, it will be".

Previously, he also said on X that SpaceX was "a super-smart company".

This is the second name change in a year.

The company, originally named xAI, was renamed SpaceXAI after its acquisition by SpaceX in February.

When the new name comes into effect, Musk did not say, and SpaceXAI has not yet announced a new brand or account.

Three main reasons for the name change

There are probably three main reasons why Musk should follow him.

First, there is a certain level of ability.

RSI (return to self-improvement) is an accelerating, iconic event that is a millennial challenge.

On September 8, OpenAI released an in-house model answering the Navi-Stokes equation problem, accompanied by a formalized Lean proof that the model is significantly more capable than the GPT-6 Astra.

The model took 88 hours to mobilize a maximum of 10,000 intelligent agents simultaneously.

In April, market forecasts also suggested that AI has less than a 40% chance of solving any of the millennium's problems by 2030.

The so-called "artificial intelligence" is no longer tracking what it can do.

Second, the right to name.

The term "artificial intelligence" was coined by John McCarthy in 1955, and the field was named after him 70 years later.

Whoever is the first to put up the SI, hanging it on the name of their company, is the one who holds the label of the next era.

"Invented SI" is no less than "invented AI".

Third, political expression.

The name change started at the White House.

Trump first publicly called for the word "AI" to be replaced by "AI" at last week's United Nations General Assembly, and then signed an executive order requiring the administration to change the terms "superintelligence" and "SI" to "AI" or "AI" in official communications, public statements and policy documents.

He argued that the word "artificial" sounded like "fake".

The executive order only applies to the federal government. It does not require private companies to change their product names, nor does it prohibit companies from continuing to use AI.

It's been a long time coming.

Musk left the Trump administration in May 2025 and subsequently publicly broke up with Trump.

The relationship has now clearly warmed up: as head of xAI, he has signed the White House "Super-Intelligence Agreement" with Sundar Pichai, Dario Amodei, Zuckerberg, Greg Brockman, and Hu Jintao.

When Trump was on the podium, he dropped an AI phrase and immediately said, "SI, sorry, super-intelligent".

Now changing the company name directly to SpaceXSI is like tying SpaceXAI and the White House speech system together, which is an olive branch that wants to move forward.

It's hard to say if SI will ever be popular.

Some tech marketing experts argue that the name change is unlikely to be accepted by the industry as a whole because "superintelligence" already has an established meaning.

But for Musk, the name change itself is the answer he needs to give now.
