DeepSeek Harness, is there finally an official desktop version?

This time, DeepSeek hasn't made an announcement, but a related download link has been shared on social media:

We opened the link, downloaded it, installed it, and found that it did work.

图片

From an interface point of view, it's already a fairly complete set of GUI: open the App, log in to a DeepSeek account or add an API Key, select a local folder as a work area, and then you can set tasks directly to the Agent, just like using a regular desktop AI application.

Harness then allows users to choose their own direction of use. It roughly divides needs into categories such as office science research, code development, and more.

图片

Next, it also asks users which workflow they prefer.

DeepSeek also provides Agent with several "working modes": standard mode, PTC mode, abbreviation mode, and creation mode.

图片

The standard mode is suitable for most tasks and is probably the most understandable use of Harness by ordinary users.

PTC is slightly technical in that it allows the model to write a small section of the program first, and then organize and call tools through the program, especially for mass processing.

The extreme simplicity model is rough, with the Agent using only terminal tools to complete tasks, which is closer to the traditional Coding Agent, and very direct for developers familiar with the command line.

Creating Mode allows the Agent to write plugins, add new features or interfaces, or combine tools and tips to create their own patterns. This is consistent with the design concept that DeepSeek Harness emphasized from the outset.

From the current interface, DeepSeek Harness has built-in six official plugins, including Intelligent Team, Voice Input, Terminal, Agent Circuit, Subagent, and Web Search. Among them, "Intelligent Team" and "Voice Input" are currently labelled "experimental", the former being used to open multiple Agent collaborations, support team tools, member lists, and task boards; the latter being able to call SenseVoice on-premises to directly convert voice into text, although the first use requires additional installation dependencies.

Several other plugins, closer to the core capabilities of Harness. The terminal is responsible for calling the native command line, and can limit the longest runtime and maximum output of a single command; Agent Cycle controls how the Agent rounds the call tool; continues the task; Subagent can set the recursive layer level, number, and model used by the sub-agent, which is equivalent to allowing one agent to divide into multiple "small assistant processing subtasks; web page search is used to configure DeepSeek's own search provider".

Overall, it's almost like an AI product aimed at ordinary people.

Previously, although DeepSeek Harness had already provided a Web UI, the official recommendation was to start by first installing Node.js and then entering a line of commands on the terminal: npx @deepseek-ai/dsh web. Harness would start the service locally and open the browser page. For developers, this was not complicated.

However, under the relevant news, the most debated is: is this really the official version?

We found a discussion post on GitHub that asked DeepSeek, "When is the official desktop client coming out?"

图片

In response, a user named "overFloweee" said that the product is already available (but not officially announced).

The information he gave was very specific, and he checked the source, version number, installation package, signature and official website status. One of the more critical information was that the app was signed with the corresponding Apple developer certificate from DeepSeek, and also passed Apple's notarization certificate. Its signatory, Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence Co., Ltd, was directed to DeepSeek.

But he also pointed out that DeepSeek has not officially announced it yet. This version is a nightly channel, more like a candidate build that has entered the official production and distribution system, and cannot be directly equivalent to "the official stable version has been released".

图片

As a result, many of these functions may not be fully developed.

We also ran some instructions in this client to verify and discover some of the critical information mentioned by the above netizens.

So far, the community has had some initial experience reviews:

Interestingly, we've just successfully installed it based on a community-streamed address, and it's already hinting that there's a new version, and it looks like the team behind it is quick to lash out.

图片

However, this client does not currently support Linux, thus creating a world where only Linux users are injured.

If you're also trying this new desktop, you're welcome to share your thoughts in the comments section.
