More than two months after the official announcement of Anthropic, Andrej Karpathy is leaving?

Recently, some netizens discovered that Karpathy had modified his profile and removed company information from it.

Before it was removed, his profile contained the clear word "Anthropic". Some say the change happened yesterday.

This detail prompted speculation from the outside world: has Karpathy left Anthropic?

Another blogger revealed that an unconfirmed report said Karpathy had submitted his resignation and politely thanked Anthropic for the opportunity. However, there are currently no reliable sources or official information to confirm this claim, and the rumours are still to be viewed with caution.

At the same time, the commentary area also received mixed reviews. Some netizens pointed out that Karpathy may have modified his profile as early as May of this year, and that the number of fans varied by about 900,000 in the two images circulated, and the timing may not be consistent.

Tibo, the head of OpenAI Codex, also reportedly responded to the rumors.

Recently, the company Anthropic has fallen into another commentary trap. The night before, Huang Rinpoche posted a personal first post on X, in which he shared an open letter to NVIDIA participating in the joint signing, emphasizing that the future AI world needs top closed-source models as well as top open-source models.

The open letter quickly attracted widespread attention. Musk subsequently relayed his support, further fuelling the debate about open-source AI in Silicon Valley. Companies participating in the collaboration continued to increase, and even OpenAI joined the signing process, but Anthropic was not included.

Some people have linked two things together.

In fact, the discussion around him has not stopped since Karpathy officially joined Anthropic.

On May 19, Karpathy suddenly announced on X that he was joining Anthropic, announcing that he would be working on the company's core pre-training team under the guidance of head Nicholas Joseph. As co-founder of OpenAI and former head of Tesla AI, Karpathy's membership was once seen by the outside world as an important victory for Anthropic in its talent competition with OpenAI.

In mid-June, the U.S. Department of Commerce issued an export restriction for Anthropic's latest models, Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, prohibiting foreign nationals from accessing related models. Subsequently, the Internet quickly circulated the claim that "non-U.S.-born Karpathy cannot access his company's strongest models".

Karpathy then forwarded an Anthropic introductory post about Claude Tag. This feature allows Claude to join the Slack channel in a similar way to team members, receiving @references and handling tasks.

The move has also sparked some discussion. It has been noted that Karpathy, who once appeared as a neutral educator - a YouTube tutorial, open-source project, with almost no commercial color - is now a product platform for employers.

However, as of now, either the removal of company information from personal profiles or the resignation statements circulating online are not enough to prove that Karpathy has left Anthropic.
