OpenAI’s New GPT-6.2 Astra Model Has Just Been Revealed

GPT-6.2 Astra, maybe it's really coming.

Previously, the community had been guessing whether OpenAI's next card was GPT-6.1 Astra or GPT-6.2 Bel.

There is no official word yet that the community can't keep up with the buttons.

There have been a number of screenshots and outbursts, and a new round of model updates seems to be on the rise.

It has been discovered that GPT-6.2 Astra appears on the Codex usage statistics page.

While the model name on the interface is still shown as GPT-6 Astra, the model identifier in detailed statistical use has become GPT-6.2.

Several users have posted the same snapshot, so it looks more like a large-scale gray release than an account showing an anomaly.

However, the GPT-6.2 Astra is not listed in the official OpenAI model directory.

The previous GPT-6.1 Astra was reportedly canceled due to security concerns. The community speculates that OpenAI may have fixed the issue and upgraded the model version to 6.2.

Users also reported that GPT-6.2 Astra is already available in the Codex CLI, but there is a notable detail in a currently circulating snapshot.

The screenshot shows that the system first pops up with the error prompt "does not support the model" ("unsupported-model") and then successfully completes a /review task. At the same time, the model name in the status bar is still shown as gpt-6.2-astra.

However, as far as the available information is concerned, a more stable judgment is currently made: these scans can only prove that user reports have obtained the relevant access permissions and are not sufficient to confirm that GPT-6.2 Astra has been able to run normally in Codex CLI.

This is the first time this has happened.

Is OpenAI really going to skip GPT-6.1 Astra and launch GPT-6.2 Astra directly?

To be honest, the current outbreak is already quite exaggerated, and we can summarize it as follows:

  • Compared to the GPT-6 Astra, the performance has significantly improved.

  • In almost all areas, Opus 5.5 has been surpassed.

  • The cost of use is significantly lower, even lower than any other model.

  • It's faster to reason.

  • Less tokens are consumed.

  • Design aesthetics have been greatly improved.

  • Technology capacity is significantly improved.

  • Programming performance has made cross-cutting progress.

Another noteworthy point of view is that the GPT-6.2 Astra may have a strong opponent: Anthropic's Fable 5.5.

If these outbreaks are true, a new round of model battles between the two companies is likely to take place soon. After all, the recent Anthropic model has also caused a lot of suspense. Mythos 5.5 has been found hidden in official HTML, while Fable 5.5 has already left its mark on Azure-related model lists.

With the launch of the Anthropic IPO, the model competition between the two companies has become increasingly focused. If both the GPT-6.2 Astra and the Fable 5.5 were to debut in the near future, a new round of positive interaction would be unavoidable.
