Ottman is still the CEO, and OpenAI has changed its name to Brockman.

It's the first time in the history of the world.

Now, the leader of OpenAI is Greg Brokckman.

Ottman is still the CEO, but the day-to-day operations are in the hands of Brockman.

Over the past year, the OpenAI storm has raged.

Brockman's title has remained unchanged over the years and has been president and co-founder.

But his power was growing: ChatGPT's product strategy, Codex's unified smart platform, corporate sales, go-to-market, computing business, and all the core lines of OpenAI other than research, almost all fell into his hands.

Thibault Sottiaux, head of API and Application Products, is quoted as saying, "Everybody reports to Greg until the end".

OpenAI is on the rise, and Brokckman is in power alone.

This year, OpenAI was a huge success.

It's the judge's fault.

A months-long trial with co-founder Musk at the Book Hall was a resounding moment.

Apple has also filed a high-profile trade secret lawsuit.

By July, an unpublished model had escaped prison in a security test, breached HuggingFace, and OpenAI could only publicly admit wrongdoing and comment on it.

In the case of the IPO, the executives are disconnected.

All year round, there are people who leave: Sora chief Bill Peebles, science department VP Kevin Weil, B2B app CTO Srinivas Narayanan, who went offline within a month. Two others say goodbye for health reasons: CMO Kate Rouch, and AGI deployment CEO Fidji Simo.

The storm didn't stop, but April was the real watershed.

This April, CRO Denise Dresser, who was burdened by the April unrest, suddenly withdrew after only eight months in office; a few days later, Brad Lightcap, who had been COO for several years and had been in charge of "special projects" for the past few months, announced his departure, saying he was "going to explore a new world".

Ross Carmel, a partner at SRFC, told The Verge that it is not uncommon for executives to resign before going public, "but it is unusual for everyone to be crammed into such a short window of time".

On August 17, Brockman personally extinguished the fire on CNBC's Squawk Box. He said that it was not uncommon for executives to flow: "At different times, we have different leaders... I am constant, and Ottman is constant. Because of this resilience and diversity, we are stronger".

After nine days, Chris Malone left.

He is in charge of the expansion of the data center, and computing is the most expensive and most explicit way to describe OpenAI relative to Anthropic.

He reportedly no longer reports directly to Brockman after the restructuring of the infrastructure, instead reporting to Vice President Sachin Katti. This is more of a step-down from "every generation changes naturally". Brockman's phrase "not unusual" on August 17 needs to be explained again on August 26.

The other real benefit: cutting some of the most expensive executive salaries to make reporting look better before going public. "You're either more profitable or closer to profitability for anthropic's OpenAI revenue lag".

Analysts even gave a timetable that by the end of September, OpenAI would launch a consumer product led by Brockman to "prove itself worthy of this position".

Variables go in batches and batches. There are only two constants left on the card table.

Two people at the card table

OpenAI's Brockman is now under Ottoman control.

Prior to OpenAI, Brockman was best known for expanding Stripe's business while internally advocating for the company's market promotion.

In December 2015, OpenAI was launched as a non-profit laboratory.

At the time, Musk was the largest early investor and publicist, Ottman was still president of Y Combinator, responsible for recruiting and outsourcing narratives, Brockman resigned from the Stripe CTO, the early office was in his living room, and Ilya came from Google Brain to give the lab academic reputation.

In 2017, OpenAI at the time was merely a purely research institution labelled as "non-profit" and "saving humanity".

But in that year's personal journal, the patient's next catchphrase was: "Financially, what would make me a billion dollars?"

On May 4, 2026, at the scene of the trial of OpenAI v. Musk, a shocking four-judge court record was made public. His current holdings in OpenAI are valued at nearly $30 billion.

More specifically, he admitted that he never invested a single penny in the company.

During the trial, a deeply hidden "financial link" was revealed: As early as 2017, it was Ottman who allocated about $10 million of his family office rights directly to Brockman as compensation for his work at OpenAI "Blood Sweat and Tears".

In addition, Brockman also holds significant stakes in other related start-ups in Ottman.

The massive bomb made Musk jump like a lightning bolt. Musk's fans and supporters were even more furious, pointing out that Brockman was a "hypocrite"."One of the most disgraceful people in America".。

The lawsuit released a very clear signal to the outside world:Ottman and Brockman have long been deeply tied in their interests.

He's also swinging right and left.

Interestingly, the two of them weren't a piece of iron in their early years.

During the difficult years of OpenAI's early years, Brockman was not always attentive to Ottoman rhetoric in major decisions regarding power structures and technological routes.

At times, he would stand alongside chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, expressing concern about the Ottoman's enormously expanded commercial ambitions; but his equally strong-willed mask would completely "squeeze" the Ottomans.

Between 2017 and 2018, there has been a fierce controversy over whether or not OpenAI transfers profits and how to finance computing.

Musk demands absolute control or merges OpenAI with Tesla.

Brockman strongly opposes this: "There shouldn't be anyone who has complete control over OpenAI".

Eventually, the negotiations broke down and Musk left office in 2018.

Then in 2019, OpenAI officially established a "capped-profit" ("limited-profit") structure, and as early as 2017 the $10 million family office rights were signed between Ottman and Brockman, a dual contract for money and power.

Following the establishment of OpenAI's profit structure in 2019, Brockman once handed over the day-to-day management of large parts of the company after Ottman officially took over as CEO.

However, Brockman is often seen as the founder of several projects.

He will forcefully overthrow a pre-determined plan at the last minute, adding his own code or functionality. This management style of "hurrying into someone else's project creates chaos and then letting other executives (such as CTO Mira Murati) shut down" burns the firing line of "Open AI Palace".

But there is no denying that his contributions are equally enormous.

Brockman's consistent role is to turn OpenAI research into something that sells money.

In 2020, he applauded GPT-3 and its developer API: "This is the first time OpenAI has a universal AI system with immediate commercial value, and it really works".

It was Brockman who made the startling leap from OpenAI's "paper lab" to "the businessman who can make his money".

In 2022, he and Ottman presented the GPT-4 biology to the Gates family. In March 2023, he hosted the GPT-4 live broadcast.

The real turning point

The real dividing line is November 17, 2023.

On that day, Ilya's joint board of directors abruptly dismissed Ottman as CEO on the grounds of "not being candid enough for the board".

At that moment, facing the biggest crisis of his political career, Brockman did not hesitate at all. He posted on X: "Based on today's news, I resign".

He immediately chose to support Ottman and joined him in planning a new AI company at the hotel. Five days later, under heavy pressure from Microsoft and the threat of a strike by almost all of his employees, the original board collapsed, and the Ottoman king returned, with Brockman back on his side.

On August 5, 2024, he publicly announced that he would be taking a sabbatical until the end of the year, the first real sabbatical in nine years.

The original plan was to return four months early, in mid-November, to negotiate a new role for an even more technically challenging issue with the Ottomans.

Today, only a few of the co-founders of that year remain -

Among the co-founders, Musk is gone, Ilya is gone, Karpathy, Shulman is gone, Murati is gone, and Vojciech Zaremba is not at the core of OpenAI.

Only Ottman and Brockman can walk from the lab to the IPO and stay on the board.
