Overview

In 2001, small yet capable CNC machines didn’t exist. Your only options were to choose “Good” and pay through the nose, or choose “Small” and compromise quality or material capabilities. That frustration sparked our mission: to build CNC machines that are affordable, capable, and easy-to-use for anyone who makes things, from students and educators to hobbyists and small manufacturers.

Both of these companies would benefit from a compact, affordable CNC mill, if only it existed. So they united to develop that mill.

This machine, they agreed, could make a huge impact for prototypers or those in specialty manufacturing. The machine they discussed wouldn't be a one-size-fits-all tool that was right for everyone, but for some, it could make a huge impact.

They’ve been there from the start. These principles guided the development of our first mill, the PCNC 1100, and they continue to shape everything we build today.

They’ve driven constant improvement. To make our machines easier to own, we developed our own controller software, PathPilot. It is designed to be intuitive, approachable, and compatible with major CAD/CAM platforms. Whether you’re running a mill, lathe, router, or plasma table, the experience is consistent. Learn it once, and you’re ready to go.

Because PathPilot is central to how our machines operate, we created PathPilot HUB. It is a free, browser-based tool that lets you explore the software and write programs from anywhere.

Tormach isn’t for everyone. That is intentional. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions because our users aren’t one-size-fits-all. We don’t use commissioned salespeople either. Keeping machines affordable matters more than paying sales commissions. Instead, we offer consultations as part of the experience. If our machines aren’t the right fit, we are okay with that.

We’re proud of where we started and excited about where we’re going. If our story resonates with you, we would be honored to be part of yours.

Every shop starts somewhere. Whether you're building your first setup or expanding what’s possible, we’re here to help you take the next step.

We empower people who make things. We get a spark when people turn their ideas into reality, their plans into parts.

It all began in 2001. There were no small-yet-capable CNC machines available at the turn of the millennium. Your choices for CNC mills were either Good or Small. You can only choose one. Choose Good and pay through the nose. Choose Small and sacrifice finish quality or limit the materials you can cut. There is frustration in the marketplace without a CNC machine tool that is small, affordable, and capable. That frustration is about the be the mother of innovation.

CAPABLE- Personal CNC mills need to meet established tolerances. Frame rigidity is critical. As the intended audience is prototypers and specialty manufacturers, decreased spindle speed and power are acceptable, but finished part quality needs to be high.
